'Redesigning Dustbin' won the Special Mention 1 on a National Level.
OVERVIEW
Rudiments - Connecting to our roots to reimagine the journey ahead, correcting the course along the way.
DESIGN BRIEF
To conceptualize, design and detail a Product or Ecosystem that has a past of more than 30 years and which has lost its way or morphed into something altogether different despite the original issues remaining unresolved to a large extent.
POSSIBLE SOLUTION
The solution could be wearable, free standing or works in conjunction with existing products or systems. It must solve a real problem of real people, living in India. What needs to be remembered, though, is the fact that the solution must be such that it can be created, produced, or realized by the use of materials, technology and processes that exists in India today.
MY ROLE
During the National Association of Students of Architecture (NASA) Industrial Design Trophy Competition, I was actively involved in the conceptual design phase of the project. Alongside my team members, we brainstormed several product ideas, including redesigning an umbrella. However, after careful consideration, we collectively chose to focus on reinventing the design of a dustbin.
During this crucial phase, I proposed the idea of integrating origami principles into the form development of the dustbin, aiming to infuse creativity and aesthetic appeal into its utilitarian design. Taking this concept a step further, I actively participated in creating preliminary physical paper models. These models served as tangible representations of our innovative design direction, laying the groundwork for subsequent development phases.
My role further expanded from conceptualization to more concrete design development. Drawing upon my skills in sketching and visualization, I played a crucial part in translating our initial ideas into detailed design concepts. Collaborating closely with the team, I crafted intricate sketches that captured the essence of our proposed origami-inspired form while seamlessly integrating functional elements.

KEY TAKEAWAYS
Collaborative Decision-Making: The decision-making process was highly collaborative, involving brainstorming sessions with team members. The collective agreement to focus on the dustbin demonstrated the effectiveness of teamwork and mutual consensus.
Creative Form Development: The incorporation of origami principles into the form development of the dustbin showcased the project's commitment to infusing creativity into utilitarian design.
Hands-On Prototyping: The creation of initial physical paper models was a hands-on approach that allowed for tangible representations of the proposed design.
Multifaceted Design Contributions: The project highlighted the importance of a multifaceted approach to design, involving contributions not only in conceptualization but also in subsequent design stages. This holistic involvement aimed at realizing a comprehensive and impactful design solution
